How Many Cups of Kratom Tea Per Kilo? Real Math from Behind the Bar
How Many Cups of Kratom Tea Per Kilo? Real Math From Behind the Bar
Short answer: about 80 sixteen-ounce cups of real kratom tea per 1kg bag of natural crushed leaf, brewed at bar strength. Long answer, with the ratios and the cost-per-cup math, below.
1 kilo (1,000g) ÷ ~12g per 16oz cup at bar strength = ~80 sixteen-ounce cups. Bump the per-cup to 8g for a light home cup and you get ~125 cups per kilo.
The starting ratio: 8–12g per 16oz cup
The reason we get asked “how many teas per kilo” so often is that every retailer publishes a different ratio. Ours is bar-tested. Here's how we think about it:
- Light home cup: 6–8g per 16oz. Where we recommend first-time brewers start.
- Standard home cup: 8–12g per 16oz. Most of our regulars settle here.
- Bar-strength cup: 12–15g per 16oz. Where you might end up after brewing daily for a few weeks.
All of the math below assumes the standard 12g per 16oz pour — a full bar-strength cup, not a weak one. If you brew lighter, your bag stretches further.
Cups per bag, by size
| Bag Size | 16oz Cups | Cost/Cup | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100g | ~8 cups | ~$2.50 | Trying a vein color, occasional brewer |
| 500g | ~40 cups | ~$1.80 | Twice-a-week brewer, month's supply |
| 1kg | ~80 cups | ~$1.50 | Daily brewer, 2–3 month supply |
| 5kg | ~400 cups | ~$1.00 | Household, bar-adjacent operator, wholesale entry |
Prices reference our current SKUs. Cost-per-cup shifts with bag price; the math structure holds regardless.
When to size up
A rough decision rule from watching our own regulars: if you're finishing a 100g bag in under two weeks, the 500g pays for itself in your next order. If you're finishing a 500g in a month, jump to the 1kg. Every step up drops your per-cup cost meaningfully.
One caveat: kratom leaf keeps its potency for about 6 months to a year, sealed and away from light. It doesn't spoil, but alkaloid content slowly degrades. Don't buy a bag size you can't reasonably finish in that window.
The at-home vs. by-the-cup comparison
A 16oz kratom nitro tea at our bar runs $9.25. A bottled kratom drink at a smoke shop runs $5–$8. A pre-brewed shot is usually $6–$10. Any of those compared to $1.50–$2.50 per cup brewed at home from natural crushed leaf is a huge gap.
For an occasional drinker, the bar or the shot is fine. For a regular — anyone drinking kratom tea more than 2–3 times a week — brewing at home from crushed leaf — or reaching for our Instant Kratom Tea Concentrate when you don't have time — is the single biggest lever for cost-per-cup we've seen.
Size up and drop your cost-per-cup
100g, 500g, 1kg, or 5kg of natural crushed leaf. Green, Red, or White vein. The math scales.
Shop Crushed LeafFrequently asked questions
Is the math the same for kava?
No — kava has different brewing math (grab our Kava Brew Kit for the gear). Traditional kava root is usually brewed at 25–35g per cup with a longer knead time. See our kava brewing guide.
Does vein color change the math?
Not the ratio. Green, Red, and White all brew at 8–12g per 16oz. The vein color changes the alkaloid profile (and the feel), not the yield.
What if I brew in a gallon batch?
Gallon = 128oz = 8 sixteen-ounce cups. So a gallon batch uses ~80–100g of leaf and gives you the same ~$2.50 per cup at 100g pricing.
